Outstanding Early Panel Sculpture by Harry Bertoia
Dating to the mid 1950´s, this panel screen is an early experiment that led to his first large scale installations; one for General Motors in Detroit, and another for Manufacturers Trust in Manhattan. Bronze coated steel plates are arranged in floating layers, attached at their corners to the next succesive panel. Numerous smaller forms are grafted into the larger structure at the connecting rods. These playful additions would soon disappear as Bertoia´s work became more concentrated and formal over time. Bertoia´s early work is exceedingly rare, providing a window into the development of his sculpture styles. 49" H 23" W 10" D.
